LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that wrestling senior Easton Hargrave has been named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (Jan. 12).
A native of Littlerock, Washington, Hargrave went 4-0 at 184 pounds at the Gut Check Duals in Olympia, Washington, this past weekend to help the Cowboys win all four duals. He began the day Friday morning (Jan. 9) with a first period pin against Joseph Norcia of Pacific (Oregon). Hargrave then took a 9-4 decision from Joseph Dickenson of Warner Pacific before finishing the day with a 14-7 decision against Connor Rosane of Highline CC. On Saturday (Jan. 10), Hargrave won a close match 11-9 against Joshua Kim of Simon Fraser.
On the weekend, the New Mexico Highlands wrestling team (5-0) beat Pacific 47-6, knocked off Warner Pacific 36-6, beat Highline CC 33-12 before finishing the weekend with a 33-9 win against Simon Fraser.
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
