LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that football seniorJared Koster is named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (Nov. 17) for the third time this season. In addition, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference named Koster the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
 
With a fourth quarter tackle with a little more than nine minutes left against CSU-Pueblo Saturday (Nov. 15), Koster recorded his 11th solo tackle of the game to break the NCAA record for both total unassisted tackles and solo tackles per game in a season. He finished with one more solo tackle to finish 2014 with 104 total solo tackles and 9.5 solo tackles per game, leading both categories in NCAA Division II.

The 22 tackles in the game by Koster was a game-best in the RMAC this season. The 172 total tackles rank fourth in a single season in the RMAC annals.
 
If that was not enough, Koster returned a fumble 58 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the 44-21 loss to the Thunderwolves. He finished the year with both a fumble and an interception return for a touchdown on the season (he returned an interception 30 yards for a score against Adams State Oct. 25).  
 
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
