LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Las Vegas, New Mexico, area Subway® restaurants and Manger Regina Denardo is pleased to announce that track and field senior Salcia Slack is named the Subway Eat Fresh Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday (April 6).
Slack had a very impressive weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational, but none more than in the triple jump. Her distance of 13.22 meters easily moved her into first place in the nation (by more than 0.5 meters) and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (by nearly 5 meters). The auto qualification mark is also the 10th-best distance in NCAA Division II history.
Also in the field, Slack took over the lead in the conference and moved into 11th in the nation with a mark of 44.44 meters in the javelin.
While her field feats were impressive, Slack brought success to the track. She took over the conference lead and is 11th in the nation in the 100 hurdles with a wind-adjusted time of 14.17. She finished the day by moving up to second in the conference and sixth in the nation in the 200 with a wind-adjusted time of 24.18.
New for the 2014-2015 school year, a Subway® Student-Athlete of the Week will be chosen every week for the athletic year. Every student-athlete chosen for the weekly award will be eligible to win the Subway Eat Fresh® Student-Athlete of the Year award following the 2014-2015 academic year. While the weekly award will be based on athletic prowess, the yearly award will be bestowed upon an athlete based on success not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and community involvement.
