A Mesa Loss Clinches a Post Season Birth for the Cowgirls

The Cowgirls ended their regular season Sunday with a hard fought game against the Ore Diggers of Colorado School of Mines. The Cowgirls came in Sunday to honor their Seniors as well as fight for a chance to make it to the Post Season. The Cowgirls had a emotional presentation for their Seniors before the game that set up for a dramatic end to the 2007 Season.

The Cowgirls started out the game with some close shots against the Mines Goal Keeper, but she held strong. Mines had some early shots as well, but Goal Keeper McKaila Dorman was shutting them down all throughout the first half. Dorman had 12 saves on the day, with countless blocked shots.

In the Second Half Lativa Harash got the Cowgirls lone Goal on a Free Kick from about 40 yards out. That was Lativa's 3rd Goal on a Free Kick this year. Harash has shown a nack for placing her shots out of the Goal Keepers reach all season. The Cowgirls had a 1-0 lead through out most of the second half. In the 82nd minute of play CSM's Diane Wetzel hit a Goal against NMHU Goal Keeper McKaila Dorman off and assist by Kayla Mitchell.  That put the Cowgirls back to a dead even ball game with just under 8 minutes to play. Both Goalies held strong and the game went into Over Time.

In the Over Time Period neither team could get things going. The Cowgirls had some chances but just couldn't get the ball to go in the net. The Cowgirls Defense held CSM out of their goal throughout the first OT period. Which led to a second OT period. The second OT was even more exciting as the Cowgirls had 3 Corner Kicks which looked promising since Harash has such a gift at bending her shots to set up her teammates for a goal. Each Corner Kick looked good but the Cowgirls just couldn't get past the CSM Goalie. Adrianna Aragon had the closest shot of the 2OT with a Header off a Corner Kick by Harash that went Wide Right. Dorman was a wall through out the OT periods as CSM could not get a shot past her of the other NMHU Defenders.

With 2 OT periods done the game ended with a Tie. The Cowgirls now had to wait to see the result of the Mesa State and Fort Lewis Game to see if they were going to make the RMAC Tourney or not. Word later came that Mesa State in fact did lose to Fort Lewis which means the Cowgirls are in the Post Season!!

The Cowgirls are the 6th and final Seed in the RMAC Tourney. They will have to get ready quickly as they head to Golden, CO to take on the 3rd Seeded CSM Ore Diggers for the second time in one week. The game is @ 5:30pm on the CSM Campus.

GOOD LUCK COWGIRLS!!!
