The NMHU Cowboys fell to the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves by a score of 35-7 on 10/17. The Cowboys are now 0-8 on the season and 0-6 in RMAC play. The Cowboys will have to gear up for their next opponent as they hit the road to Silver City, N.M. to take on the Western New Mexico Mustangs. The Cowboys and the Mustangs will be playing for the “Warrior Helmet” on 10/24. The “Warrior Helmet” is a traveling trophy between the two teams. The series is tied at 1-1. The Cowboys won last year's meeting between the two teams 17-14 and look to take a 2-1 series lead in the “Warrior Helmet Game”.

The Thunderwolves struck first as they ran back the opening kick-off for a score and put the Cowboys in a 7-0 hole early. The Thunderwolves would score once more in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The Cowboys would then mount an offensive series of their own. The drive was sparked by a 56 yard Narciso Diaz to Robert Grant completion that set up a Wallace Lebrane four yard touchdown run to cut the Thunderwolves lead in half 14-7. That would be the last points on the board for the Cowboys. The Thunderwolves would score 21 unanswered points to take the game by a final score of 35-7.

The offensive leader for the Cowboys was Narciso Diaz. Diaz completed nine of 24 passes for 153 yards. Defensively for the Cowboys, Jason Burns led all tacklers with 11 tackles on the day.

The Cowboys will be in action on the road next as they travel to Silver City, N.M. to take on the Western New Mexico University Mustangs on 10/24 in the “Warrior Helmet” game at 1:30pm. If you can't make the trip to Silver City, N.M. you can watch your Cowboys live on the B2 Networks.
