The NMHU Cowgirls started out their regular season off on the right foot on 11/16 as they edged out in-state rival the Zias of Eastern New Mexico University by a final score of 89-85. The Cowgirls are now 1-0 on the season and continue their life on the road as they travel to Goodwell, Okla. on 11/24 to take on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle University.
The Cowgirls played a very tough Eastern New Mexico team that had beaten the Cowgirls twice in the 2008-09 season and came out victorious. The Cowgirls played a tight game with the Zias throughout as the Cowgirls had a narrow 40-39 lead at the half and held off a late Zia surge in the final minutes to claim their first victory of the season.
“Our girls played awesome. We had tremendous post play tonight and showed that we are not just a one dimensional team. We are here to play and turn some heads this season,” said NMHU Head Coach

Leading the way for the Cowgirls was Center,
Ashley Logan. Logan dominated in the paint as she racked up a career high 24 points and pulled in five rebounds. Logan also showed her defensive skills adding in one steal in the Cowgirls win.
Other outstanding performers include:
Briana Gholston,
Jessica Armijo and
Oliana Seanoa. Gholston was two rebounds shy of a double-double as she scored 14 points and had eight rebounds. Gholston also added in one steal. Armijo finished the night with 14 points, three rebounds, a game high six assists and two steals. Seanoa closed out the night with 11 points, one rebound and one steal.
The Cowgirls look to continue their winning ways as they head to Goodwell, Okla. to take on the Aggies from Oklahoma Panhandle State University on 11/24 at 7:00pm.
