The NMHU Cowgirls got their fifth win of the season on 12/14 with a 67-55 win over the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The Cowgirls dominated the first half as they never trailed. The Cowgirls amassed a 21 point lead in the first half and played a steady second half to come away with the win. The Cowgirls are now 5-2 on the season and off to their best start in four seasons. The Cowgirls will take the court again on 12/17 when they take on in-state rival the Zia's of Eastern New Mexico University at 7:00pm in the John A. Wilson Complex.
The Cowgirls sprinted out to a big lead over the Aggies in the first half as they led by as much as 21 points in the first half. The Cowgirls would hold a nine or more point lead throughout the second half to run away with their fifth win of the season. The Cowgirls used a balanced attack of impressive post play and some sharp shooting perimeter shots to overwhelm the Aggies defense throughout most of the game.
The Cowgirls were led by
Jessica Armijo. Armijo finished the night with a game high 21 points. Armijo was just one rebound away from her first double-double of the season as she pulled down nine rebounds. Armijo also added in three assists and one steal for the night.
Ashley Logan was the only other Cowgirl in double figures for the night. Logan dominated the paint with 14 points on the night. Logan was also a terror on defense with two blocked shots and one steal. Logan also added in six rebounds and two assists for the night.
The Cowgirls will take the court again on 12/17 when they take on in-state rival the Zia's of Eastern New Mexico University at 7:00pm in the John A. Wilson Complex.
