Cowgirl Softball Signs All-Star Catcher

Roxanne Avalos

The New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirl Softball program has added to their 2009 recruiting class with the signing of Roxanne Avalos (5'8”; C/1B; Hacienda Heights, Calif.). NMHU Head Coach Shellie Broyles is very pleased and excited about the signing of Avalos.

“Roxy (Avalos) will be a great addition to our lineup. She has a spark that will be a much needed addition to our program. She truly loves the game and I can't wait to see her in the fall” says Broyles of her newest signee.

Avalos has been a standout at Los Altos HS in Hacienda Heights, Calif. for the past four seasons. Avalos has been named to many All-Tournament teams in her career. Most recently she was named to the All-Santiago Tournament Team. She was also named to The Tribune Athletic Honor Roll in her senior season. Avalos was a major contributor towards to two Miramonte League Championships that her team won during her time at Los Altos HS. Avalos was also named to the Miramonte League All League team as a Catcher in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. When Avalos isn't competing for Los Altos HS, she is playing for her summer travel ball team, the Cal Thunder.

Coach Broyles shares the same enthusiasm that her player does. When asked about the Avalos signing Coach Broyles had this to say, “I am very happy that we are adding Roxy (Avalos) to our squad. She is a very talented young woman with a true passion for the game. She should help solidify our team and hopefully compete for a spot in the lineup this coming season.”
