The NMHU Cowgirls were on the road for two RMAC games but weren't able to come home with a victory, despite their valiant efforts.
First on the schedule for the Cowgirls were the Colorado Christian University Cougars. The Cougars eventually beat the Cowgirls in a 71-48 lashing. The Cowgirls' offense was no match for the Cougars as the Cowgirls scored only 13 points in the first half.
Leading the Cowgirls in scoring was
Briana Gholston with 15 points on the night. Gholston also added in five rebounds and three steals for the Cowgirls. The only other Cowgirl to score in the double digits was
Ashley Logan, with 10 points on the night. Logan also grabbed six rebounds and one steal for the Cowgirls.
Leading the defense for the Cowgirls was
Hope Williams with 11 total rebounds. Williams also contributed four points and two steals.
The Cowgirls then travelled to Colorado School of Mines to take on the Orediggers, the top team in the RMAC. The Cowgirls kept the Orediggers on their toes the whole game but weren't able to pull out the victory as they fell to the Orediggers by a mere two points, 60-58.
The Cowgirls were a much different team from the night before as they only allowed the Orediggers to lead by 11 points in the first half but the reeled them back in close. The Cowgirls kept the game close the second half and the final score showed them down by one at half and then the final score was down by two.
Leading the Cowgirls in scoring was
Whitley Coca with 17 points and one rebound.
Katlyn Mary was the only other Cowgirl to score in the double digits as she netted 15 points for the Cowgirls and also had four rebounds on the night. Mary was 5-6 from the 3-point line against the Orediggers. Williams again led the Cowgirls defense with eight total rebounds.
The Cowgirls will need to compete like they did against the Orediggers to be able to make their mark on the RMAC as they have a homestead of four games, all RMAC games. The Cowgirls are now
The Cowgirls will face the Metro State College Roadrunners on 1/15 followed by the Regis University Rangers on 1/16. Both games will tip off at 6 pm in the John A. Wilson Complex on the NMHU Campus.
