Cowgirls Stomp Grizzlies; Ranked #3 in RMAC

Revenge was sweet for the Cowgirl Soccer team as they showed the Grizzlies of Adams State College what being a Cowgirl is all about. Last time the two teams met up on the Grizzlies' stomping ground, the Grizzlies came out on top 1-0. This time it was the Cowgirls who would come out on top with a final score of 3-1. The Cowgirls took it in style as local breast cancer survivors were on hand for the NMHU's Pink Out, “This One's for the Girls” week of events.

Getting things started for the Cowgirls was Krista Mashak, who has been a standout for the Cowgirls in the past few games. She scored in the 18th minute off a Casey Rubin assist. That was her sixth goal on the season, to keep her the leading scorer for the Cowgirls this season.

With less than three minutes left in the first half, Julissa Rodriguez took a hint from Mashak and connected with Jordan Dinneen to score another goal for the Cowgirls.

In the 60th minute, Rodriquez again met with the back of the net as she scored, unassisted. That took her goal count up to six, to tie with Mashak for leading scorers.

The Grizzlies answered back with one goal late in the game. The only other time the Grizzlies came close after that prompted a graceful save from Shannon Delarosbil to keep the Grizzlies from scoring.

Amanda Rose Johnson started in the net for the Cowgirls and played just under 75 minutes in the goal. She had six saves and no goals allowed during her time in the net. Delarosbil had a pair of saves and one goal allowed on the day.

The Cowgirls outshot the Grizzlies 18-10, but the Grizzlies had edge on shots on goal, 9-6.

The Cowgirls are now ranked third in the RMAC, the best ranking in years for the program. This game also marked a home winning streak for the Cowgirls who are 4-0-1 at home, the tie being against Metro State who was ranked #3 in the nation at the time.

The Cowgirls are now 7-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in RMAC play as they take their show on the road this weekend against UCCS on 10/15 and Colorado School of Mines on 10/17.
