The Cowgirl Soccer team took to the road to play the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs as they are coasting through RMAC play. The Cowgirls came out on top with a final score of 3-1. The common denominators for the Cowgirls were Julissa
Julissa Rodriguez and
Ariana Strickland.
The Cowgirls started off early as they scored 12 minutes into play. Strickland crossed and passed to Rodriguez who shot the ball into the high far corner of the net and scored the first goal of the game.
It wasn't but 10 minutes later when Strickland took a penalty kick for the Cowgirls after a Mountain Lion foul. She sank it deep into the net for the Cowgirls' second goal. The Cowgirls went into the second half ahead 2-0.
The Mountain Lions were able to score in the 58th minute, on a far side high shot.
The Cowgirls answered back with another goal as
Brooke Schmelter crossed over to
Krista Mashakwho passed to Rodriguez. Rodriguez shot the ball high and to the left for the Cowgirls' third goal and her eighth goal of the season. She is currently tied for third in the RMAC with goals scored.
Amanda Rose Johnson played the entirety of the game in the net for the Cowgirls. She grabbed four saves with one goal allowed.
The Cowgirls are currently 8-4-2 overall and 6-2-2 in RMAC play. They are ranked third in the RMAC and fifth in the NCAA Central Region.
The Cowgirls look to continue their streak and move up into the rankings as they take on the fourth ranked Orediggers of Colorado School of mines on 10/17.
