The NMHU Cowboys fell to the Eagles of Chadron State College by a final score of 41-19 on 10/16. The Cowboys would come as close as 11 points from the Eagles, but costly turnovers would spell doom for the Cowboys. The Cowboys will now be hitting the road for the next two weeks as they take on RMAC powerhouses, The University of Nebraska-Kearney and CSU-Pueblo in consecutive weeks. The Cowboys first test will be the Lopers of UNK. The Cowboys take on the Lopers on 10/23.
The Cowboys struggled offensively for the first half as they would only have one first down, but would come alive in the second half as they played a tight second half with the Eagles. The Cowboys would finish the day with 248 yards on 48 plays. The Cowboys would pass for 189 yards and rush for 95 yards to finish the game.
Jordan Mendoza would finish the day completing 11 of 17 passes for 149 yards and he would also rush for four yards. Mendoza would also throw two interceptions during the game.
Isaac Garcia would come out of nowhere for the Cowboys and finished the day with “workhorse” like numbers as he would carry the ball 16 times for 83 yards.
Defensively, the Cowboys would finish the day giving up 389 yards to the powerful Chadron offense. The Eagles would finish the day with 305 yards rushing and 84 yards passing. Leading the defense for the Cowboys were
Tony Udley and
TJ Norris. Udley and Norris would both finish the day with 10 tackles each on the day. Udley would add one pass break-up to his stats. Norris would add in two tackles for a loss of eight yards and a pass break-up.
