The Cowgirl Soccer team hosted the Mavericks from Mesa State College on what turned out to be a frigid day. In the end, the Cowgirls came away with the win with a score of 2-0, their fourth shutout of the year.
The Cowgirls and Mavericks battled back and forth in a physical game just to stay off the ground. The Cowgirls had 17 fouls on the game as the Mavericks came away with 13 fouls. When it came down to it, the Cowgirls outshot the Mavericks, 14-12 on the day.
In typical Cowgirl fashion, it wasn't even 15 minutes into the game before the Cowgirls scored.
Susannah Hertz fed the ball to
Julissa Rodriguez who put it right past the keeper. This would be Rodriguez's 11th goal for the season.
With about the same amount of time left in the game, less than fifteen minutes, it was
Nicole Plaska who fed the ball to
Ariana Strickland for the Cowgirls' second goal of the day.
Amanda Rose Johnson held it down in the box for the Cowgirls yet again. She registered seven saves for the day with no goals allowed. She now has three shutouts on the season with an 8-2-1 record.
The Cowgirls will take on the Skyhawks of Ft. Lewis College on 10/24 at Perkins Stadium. Last time the two teams met up, the Skyhawks won 6-0 after the Cowgirls played short a player on a red card. The Skyhawks are currently ranked #5 in the nation. Be sure to come out and support your Cowgirls, the #3 team in the RMAC.
