Teamwork paid off for the Cowgirls Soccer team on 10/8 as they took to the road to face off with the Colorado Christian University Cougars. The Cowgirls worked together in the victory but it was clear that
Krista Mashak was the commonality in all of the Cowgirls' scoring efforts. The Cowgirls defeated the Cougars with a final score of 2-0.
The Cowgirls took the early lead against the Cougars. In the 23rd minute Mashak connected to
Susannah Hertz for the first goal of the day and Hertz' first goal of the year.
After the second half, the Cowgirls' scoring continued. Mashak took control of the ball and beat the Cougars' defenders to the net and scored the second goal of the game, unassisted.
The Cowgirls outshot the Cougars 17-10. The Cowgirls also edged out the competition in corner kicks, 4-3. The Cougars had twice as many fouls as the Cowgirls, 12-6.
Controlling the field in the net were two Cowgirls,
Amanda Rose Johnson and
Scottie Prince. Johnson had four saves during the first half with no goals allowed. Prince had two saves with no goals allowed during the second half. Johnson earned the win in the net.
Mashak had seven shots, six of which were on goal. She now leads the Cowgirls in scoring with five goals, the most any single player has had since Head Coach
Justin Wagar took the helm.
The Cowgirls are now 6-4-1 on the season and 4-2-1 in the RMAC. They will make the long journey to Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Lopers of the University of Nebraska- Kearney.
