The 2010 season came to a close for the Cowgirl soccer team as the Regis Rangers outscored them in the first round of the NCAA tournament on 11/12 in Minnesota.
The Rangers were leading 3-0 going into the half and the Cowgirls were only able to answer back with two goals after the half. The late surge in the cold and wet conditions wasn't enough for the Cowgirls to get the win.
The Rangers scored their first goal at the 17 minute mark. The wet field condition helped the Rangers to get their second goal as a cluster of athletes ended up on the ground and the wet ball popped out from
Amanda Rose Johnson and slid around to find a Ranger who scored their second goal. The Rangers' third and final goal would come from a corner kick.
The Cowgirls held themselves together and in the 59th minute they scored their first goal to get them on the board.
Brooke Schmelter fed the ball to
Julissa Rodriguez for the first Cowgirl goal and Rodriguez's 15th goal of the season.
The Cowgirls second goal came from a Rodriguez assist to
Jordan Dinneen for her first goal of the year.
The last time the two teams met up, Regis outshot the Cowgirls 22-7, this time only one shot separated the two teams. Regis was a very physical team who had double the fouls the Cowgirls did, 18-9.
Johnson played the entire game in the net for the Cowgirls and had two saves on the day with three goals allowed.
The Cowgirls are now done with the 2010 season and it was a record breaking season for them. They finish with a final record of 12-7-2 and 9-3-2 in RMAC play.
