The Cowgirl basketball team's goal in round two with the Eastern New Mexico Zias was to give them a taste of their own medicine and the Cowgirls did just that. The last time the two teams met up, just days earlier, the Zias bested the Cowgirls but it is the Cowgirls who have the last say as they took their home opener with a final score of 72-62.

The Cowgirls led the entire game, not giving the Zias a chance to see victory at all. The Cowgirls were up by as much as 14 points in the game, which was during the first half.

The Cowgirls had three players in double digits with Whitley Coca leading not only the Cowgirls but also the entire game. She had 20 points and added in 8 rebounds to lead the team in scoring and rebounds. She was 2-2 in three point land and 6-8 from the charity stripe and in jumpers. Briana Gholston had 13 points on the night with five rebounds. True freshman Taylor Ealey had 12 points on the night with seven rebounds. She was 4-4 when it came to free throws.

The Cowgirls held the Zias' leading scorer to a mere 16 points after she scored 26 points the last time the two teams met up. The Zias also have a player who is one of the leading scorers in the school's history and the Cowgirls held her to only two points on the night. They also shut her down in three point land.

Head Coach Tiffany Darling said, “Tonight these young athletes worked hard, they showed that even though they are a young team they can pick themselves up and come back for the win. We made some adjustments after Saturday's game at Eastern and it proved to work. We saw promise from a few of our young players with Coca and Ealey.

The Cowgirls are now 3-3 on the season as they go into RMAC play this upcoming weekend. The Cowgirls will play host to the Metro State Roadrunners in the John A. Wilson Complex.
