Cowgirls Face Tough RMAC Competition

The NMHU Cowgirls Basketball team played two home games against fierce RMAC competition this weekend. First on the agenda for the Cowgirls were the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, who are currently ranked #1 in the Region. The last time the two teams met up, the Skyhawks won 94-40. The Cowgirls fought hard but came out with the loss and a score of 83-55.

The Cowgirls tried to keep the Skyhawks in reach but were never able to control the scoreboard. The Cowgirls went into the half only behind by 13 points. The Skyhawks took the ball and ran with it as they eventually beat the Cowgirls by 28 points.

The Cowgirls' scoring was lead by Ashley Logan with 14 points for the night. She also grabbed two rebounds on the night. Following her suit was Whitney Polosky as she had 13 points for the night and added in three rebounds for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls defense stepped up to keep the margin close. Jessica Armijo led the Cowgirls' defense with eight rebounds. Amanda Beauchamp was close behind with seven rebounds. Armijo also had three steals against the Skyhawks.

Next up for the Cowgirls were the Adams State Grizzlies. The Cowgirls and the Grizzlies went back and forth in the first half for the lead. Eventually the Cowgirls would lose by a mere seven points, with the final score being 69-62.

The Cowgirls had three players in double digits. Amanda Beauchamp, Armijo, and Logan each had 17, 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Armijo once again led the defense with six rebounds. Briana Gholston added four rebounds to the Cowgirls' efforts.

The Cowgirls will play at home for the final home game on 2/16 in the John A. Wilson Complex as they  take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves and participate in the WBCA Pink Zone game to benefit the Kay Yow foundation. Since this is the final home game of the season come out to support the seniors as they play their last home game and are recognized for their efforts in between the women's and men's games.
