The Cowgirl Soccer team had their best showing of the year as they took on the nationally ranked Roadrunners of Metro State College on 9/18 at Perkins Stadium. The Roadrunners are currently ranked #3 in the nation and tied with the Cowgirls. After 90 minutes of regulation play and two 10 minute overtime periods, the final score was 1-1.
The Roadrunners started off the scoring early in the fourth minute of play. It took the Cowgirls until the beginning of the second period, in the 50th minute, to answer back.
Julissa Rodriguez connected to
Tierra Saban for the only goal for the Cowgirls and Saban's third goal of the year.
The Cowgirls were able to break through the Roadrunners' defense much easier than the Roadrunners could do on the Cowgirls' defense. As a result, the Cowgirls had 15 shots to the Roadrunners' 13 shots. It was just the second time since 2008 the Roadrunners were out-shot.
The Cowgirl Offense made the goalkeeper work hard as there were six Roadrunner saves and the Cowgirls had five.
In the next for the entirety of the game was
Shannon Delarosbil. She had a key save in the second overtime period to help keep the Roadrunners from earning the win. Aside from her five saves, Delarosbil had one goal allowed.
The Cowgirls are now 3-2-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in RMAC play. They will now travel to Adams State College to take on the Grizzlies on 9/22. The Grizzlies recently lost to the Roadrunners 2-0 and then beat Colorado Christian 2-1.
