Cowgirls Run Through Rangers 1-0

#13 Krista Mashak
The NMHU soccer team shot their way to their fourth win of the season as they bested the Rangers of Regis University by a final score of 1-0. The Cowgirls improve to 4-3-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in RMAC play. The Cowgirls are off to their best start since head coach Justin Wagar took over the program in 2009. The Cowgirls will be hitting the road this week as they travel to Durango, Colo. to take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on 10/1.

The Cowgirls and the Rangers battled all throughout the match and would play to a 0-0 halftime score. The Cowgirls would outshoot the Rangers 7-1 in the first period. In the second period it would be more of the same until the 70th minute when Krista Mashak would take a pass from Ariana Strickland and shoot it past the Regis goal keeper for her third goal of the season. Strickland was credited with the assist. After the late score, the Cowgirls tenacious defense took over and kept the ball out of the Rangers side of the field to secure the win for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls would outshoot the Rangers by a final shot count of 12-7 for the day with five of their shots on goal.

Winning the goal keeper decision for the Cowgirls was Amanda Rose Johnson. Johnson improved to 2-1-0 on the season. Johnson finished the day with five saves as she and the Cowgirl defense held the Rangers scoreless for just the third time this season.

The Cowgirls will become road warriors the next couple of weeks as the Cowgirls will be playing six of their next seven games on the road. Next up for the red hot Cowgirls are the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College. The Cowgirls will take the field in Durango, Colo. on 10/1 at 1:00 pm.
