The NMHU Cowboys opened up the 2010 season on a rough note as they fell to the #17 Midwestern State University Mustangs by a final score of 52-6 on 9/2 in Las Vegas, NM. The Cowboys had some bright moments in the lopsided loss and show some promise for the upcoming season. Look for the Cowboys to bounce back from their opening week stumble as they take on the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies on 9/11 in Goodwell, Okla.
“This loss does not define our team. MSU is a great team, but so are we. Tomorrow is a new day and now it's time to focus on a new opponent in OPSU” said NMHU Head Coach Chad Roanhaus after Thursday night's loss.
The Cowboy offense finished the night with 176 yards and one score against a stingy MSU defense. Leading the Cowboys in offense for the night was quarterback
Robbie Armijo. Armijo finished the night completing 8 of 16 passes for 80 yards passing with one interception. Armijo was also second in rushing for the Cowboys with 14 yards on four carries.
The Cowboy defense ended the night giving up 581 yards of total offense against a very talented MSU offense. Leading the Cowboy defense for the night were
Siosaia Moeakiola and
Anthony Yarbrough. Both defenders finished the night with six tackles each on the night.
The Cowboys will look to rebound from their opening week stumble on 9/11 when they take the field in Goodwell, Okla. to take on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Kick-Off is set for
7:00 pm.
