The NMHU Cowgirls a non-conference road win in Denver, Colo. beating Johnson and Wales University 81-73 on 1/18. The Cowgirls dominated the first half of the game entering the locker room with a 12 point lead. Although they were outscored 41-37 in the second half of play the Cowgirls managed to close the game out to seal the victory by eight points. With their victory over the Wildcats the Cowgirls, lead by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, improve their overall record to 7-12 and remain 3-9 in RMAC play.
Domonique Rivera was the highlight of the Cowgirl's assault tonight earning her first double-double performance of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds from 31 minutes of play. Rivera had an electric first half of play off the bench going a perfect 5-5 from the field while nabbing 6 rebounds in 13 minutes on the court. Starting Forward Brianna Gholston had a solid game scoring 12 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Gholston rounded out her night with four steals and three assists playing a total of 22 minutes. Cowgirl
Whitley Coca added a great second half effort with four rebounds, two steals, an assist, and scored seven of her points. Coca finished the game with nine points, six rebounds, two steals and an assist in her 29 minutes on the court. The efforts of Rivera, Gholston and Coca helped the Cowgirl's win their seventh game of the season.
The Cowgirls will continue conference action again on 1/22 in an RMAC home game against Western New Mexico University. The Mustangs visit the John A. Wilson Complex with a 1-11 RMAC record and 1-15 in overall play this season. Come out and support the Cowgirls, tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM.
