Cowboys Fall to ASC in Overtime Thriller 30-24

The NMHU Cowboys fell in overtime to the Adams State Grizzlies on 10/8 by a final score of 30-24. The Cowboys would jump out to a quick 14-0 lead after a 50 yard touchdown return by Abdul Kanneh to put the Cowboys out in front 7-0. The Cowboys would then recover an ASC fumble on the next possession and turn that into a score as well as Harold Mobley and Zeb White Connected for a 14 touchdown pass to put the Cowboys up 14-0 in the first two minutes of the ball game. ASC would answer back with a score of their own in the first quarter to make the score 14-7 going into the second quarter. The Cowboys would score 10 more points in the second quarter and ASC would add six points to make it a 24-13 halftime score. The Grizzlies held the Cowboys scoreless through the remainder of the game. Adam State added 11 points in the fourth quarter to tie it all up 24-24 to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Cowboys would fumble on their first possession opening the door for ASC to come away with the win. ASC capitalized on the NMHU miscue as they would score within two plays of their overtime series to seal the 30-24 win over the Cowboys. With the loss, the Cowboys are now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play.

“We played a tough game tonight and the injuries caught up to us. We had people out of position throughout the second half and that hurt us. We just have to get healthy this week and get ready for Chadron State,” commented NMHU Head Coach Eric Young following his Cowboys 30-24 overtime loss to Adams State College on 10/8.

Offensively, the Cowboys finished the night with 266 yards of offense (178 rushing and 88 passing). Jequerie Proctor finished with 91 yards on the night with one touchdown. Harold Mobley would complete five of 11 passes for one touchdown on the night. Kevon Williams led the Cowboy receiving core with two catches for 42 yards.

Defensively, the Cowboys would allow 453 yards of total offense (152 rushing and 301 passing) on the night by the Grizzlies. The Cowboys racked up five quarterback sacks on the night for a loss of 40 yards as well as a season high 13 pass break-ups on the night. Cordelle Nugent, Jordan Campbell and TJ Norris led the Cowboys in tackles on the night. Nugent finished with 11 tackles and one pass break-up. Campbell finished with nine tackles and one pass break-up. Norris would finish with nine tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass break-up and two sacks on the night.

The Cowboys look to regroup this week as they prepare to hit the road for a showdown with Chadron State College on 10/15 at 12:00 p.m. in Chadron, Neb.
