Box Score The NMHU Women's basketball team swept their home conference games this weekend with their 68-61 victory over the Cougars of Colorado Christian University.  The Cowgirls managed another complete team effort with four players scoring in double digits including a double-double performance by Tanee' Denson-Griffin.  The Cougars jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first half, but the Cowgirls fought their way back to tie the game up at six apiece with 13:03 left in the half.  The Cougars worked their lead back up to six points before the Cowgirls again turned up the intensity to gain the 17-15 lead with 5:53 left before halftime.  The Cowgirls had gained the momentum and when the buzzer sounded to end the first half of play the Cowgirls took a nine point lead into the locker room.  The Cougars struck first in the second half to cut the Cowgirls' lead to six points.  Both teams went back and forth for the opening minutes of the second half but the Cowgirls were able to maintain their lead.  The Cowgirls' Ashley Godfrey hit a layup on a fast break, with 11:59 left in the game, to give the Cowgirls their biggest lead of the night at 13 points.  The Cougars stepped up their game and were able to close the gap to just one point after Kelsie Hert hit two free-throw shots with 7:26 remaining.  The Cowgirls regained their composure and were able to keep the Cougars at bay thanks to great defensive play and their ability to make key free-throw shots down the stretch.  When the final buzzer sounded the Cowgirls had come away with the seven point victory, 68-61, to seal the home stand sweep for the weekend.  With the win the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, improve to a 3-5 record in the RMAC and 7-5 in overall play.

Trish Simpson was the leading scorer in the game for the Cowgirls with 14 points.  Simpson shot an impressive 7-9 from the field and added eight rebounds in her 22 minutes on the court.

Whitley Coca came so close a double-double in the game by scoring 12 points and grabbing nine boards.  Coca played 37 minutes in the game, adding an assist and a steal to her night's totals.

Tanee' Denson-Griffin notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Denson-Griffin played an inspiring up tempo game in her 24 minutes of playing time.  She would also add a steal and two assists to the Cowgirls' efforts.

China Smith rounded out the Cowgirls' attack with 10 points off the bench.  Smith would add four rebounds, three steals and an assist in her 22 minutes on the court.

The Cowgirls continued to improve as a unit in tonight's game.  They played tough on defense and shared the ball well on offense.

The Cowgirls will continue home conference action again, on 1/6, as they host the NCAA DII sixth ranked Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College.  The Skyhawks, led by RMAC Pre-season Player of the Year Dana Schriebvogel, are sitting in second place in the RMAC with a perfect 7-0 conference record and 10-1 in overall play.  The game at the John A. Wilson Complex is scheduled for a 6 pm tip-off time, with the Cowboys taking to the court shortly after the completion of the women's game.  If you can't make it up to the gym to watch your Cowgirls in action, you can click HERE to watch the game LIVE on the America One network.
