The NMHU Cowboys finished their first game of the 2011 season in dramatic fashion on 9/3 as they came back from a 28 point deficit to score 43 points in the second half and overtime to snatch victory away from Eastern New Mexico University.

Ernesto Guerra kick to take the lead in 43-36 to seal the victory for first year head coach
Eric Young and staff. The win was also NMHU's first win over a Lone Star Conference opponent in more than a decade.

Eric Young following their come from behind win over the Greyhounds of ENMU.
Offensively, the Cowboys finished the night with 485 yards of total offense. The Cowboys would rush for 331 yards and pass for 154 in the Cowboys first win of the season.
Jequerie Proctor would lead the way for the Cowboys rushing as he was one of three Cowboys with 100+ yards rushing on the night. Proctor would finish with 162 yards rushing while
Jermaine Holmes and quarterback
Emmanuel Lewis would both finish the night with 100+ yards rushing. Lewis would also add in 154 yards and two touchdowns passing to his night's totals.
Deandre Green would lead the receivers for the night with three catches for 64 yards and one touchdown on the night.
Defensively, the Cowboys proved to be a formidable opponent as they held the Eastern New Mexico “Nascar” offense to just under 391 yards on the night. The Greyhounds averaged 430 yards per game in 2010. Leading the way for the Cowboys was
Cordelle Nugent as he finished with 12 tackles on the night. Nugent would also have two quarterback sacks on the night and one quarterback hurry as he was in the Greyhounds backfield most of the night.
Virdell Larkins and
Jordan Campbell would round out the top three performers for the Cowboys. Larkins would finish with 10 tackles and one pass break-up on the night, while Campbell finished with seven tackles, one interception and one quarterback sack. The Cowboys would finish the night with three interceptions, one forced fumble and six quarterback sacks as a team.
The Cowboys will be in action again on 9/10 when the play host to the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle University in Perkins Stadium at 7:00 p.m. for their 2011 home opener. NMHU will be hosting a “Purple Out” that evening and will be giving out free purple t-shirts to the first 200 people at the gate. The t-shirts are provided by Community First Bank of Las Vegas.
