Box Score Pueblo, Colo. - The NMHU Cowboys fell to the Thunderwolves of #1 CSU-Pueblo 31-17 on 11/3 in a hard fought game on both sides of the ball. The Pokes finished the day outgaining the national powerhouse 423 yards to 361, but when the final horn sounded the Thunderwolves would come out on top 31-17 after capitalizing on some key NMHU turnovers and miscues. With the loss, the Cowboys fall to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in RMAC play. The Pokes return home to Perkins Stadium to host in-state rival Western New Mexico on 11/10 in the “Battle for the Warrior Helmet” traveling trophy game.
Offensively, the Cowboys finished the game with 423 yards (83 yards rushing and 340 passing).
Emmanuel Lewis led the Pokes in passing completing 29 or 42 passes for 340 yards and one touchdown for the day. Lewis also got it done with his legs for the Cowboys gaining 23 yards on 12 carries.
Lavelle Peterson led the Cowboys in rushing with 33 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown.
EJ Woods came in second in rushing with six carries for 26 yards.
Darius Davis led the Cowboys in receiving with seven catches for 147 yards with a long of fifty.
Kevon Williams finished second for the Pokes in receiving with nine catches for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, the Cowboys held the Thunderwolves to just 361 yards (136 rushing and 22 yards passing) for the day.
Jared Koster,
Jordan Campbell and
Karldell Dunning led the way for the Cowboys defensively.
Koster led the Cowboys in tackles with 12 tackles, one tackle for a loss of one yard, one fumble recovery and one pass break-up.
Campbell finished with 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble. Dunning rounds out the top three performers with 10 tackles, one interception, one pass break-up and one quarterback hurry.
The Cowboys will return home to Perkins Stadium to host in-state rival Western New Mexico on 11/10 in the “Battle for the Warrior Helmet” traveling trophy game. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, N.M.
