Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. - The NMHU Women's basketball team grabbed their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the 2012-13 season against RMAC contender Colorado Christian University, 87-83, at the John A. Wilson Complex. Both teams got off to a hot start in the first half, matching bucket for bucket to make it a 34-34 tie going into half time.

The Cowgirls battled the Cougars of Colorado Christian in the second half, giving the stellar home crowd something to be excited about. With a nail bitter mid-way through the second half a key steal by Michelle Traynham turned into a lay-up by Alyssa Lopez to give the Cowgirls a 76-73.

The Cowgirls' Cwynnci Lobaugh hit some big three-point shots to help the Cowgirls extend their lead 81-73 late in the second half to hold off the Cougars' rally. The Cowgirls made some critical shots with time running out and Head Coach Tiffany Darling used her timeouts to strategize the victory.  When the final buzzer sounded the Cowgirls had secured their first RMAC victory of the season with the final score of 87-83.   With the win the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, improve to a 1-0 record in the RMAC and 1-4 in overall play.

Alyssa Lopez was the top performer for the Cowgirls in their first RMAC win of the season. Lopez played 37 minutes and led all scorers with 24 points. Lopez's leadership on the court and big shots were the critical factor for the Cowgirls. She shot 8-13 from the field and 2-4 from behind the arc. Both three-pointers were big-time shots in key moments of the game.  Lopez added seven rebounds and two assists to her totals.

Cwynnci Lobaugh continued her consistent scoring contributions in this game with 20 points. Lobaugh was having trouble getting started in the first half, but she turned it up in the second half, connecting on a pair of threes that put the Cowgirls in control.  She shot 5-9 from the field and 3-7 from three-point land. She also had four rebounds and two assists in her 19 minutes of playing time.

The Cowgirls will continue conference action again, on 12/1, as they take on the Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers are currently ranked fourth in the RMAC with a 1-0 conference record and 4-3 in overall play.  The game is scheduled for a 6:00 pm tip-off time, with the Cowboys taking to the court shortly after the completion of the women's game.  If you can't make it to the John A.
