Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. -The Cowboy Football team endured seventh straight loss, 47-21, against the no.3 ranked Thunderwolves of Colorado State University of Pueblo, on Nov 9
th. The Thunderwolves took the lead in the first quarter 9-7. The Thunderwolves scored a total of 21 points finishing the first half on a high note. The Cowboys played a very tough third quarter against the Thunderwolves. Both teams would only score one touchdown a piece, giving the Thunderwolves the lead of 40-14. Entering the fourth quarter the Cowboys continued to battle against the Thunderwolves. Once again both teams scored a touchdown. Once the final whistle was blown the Thunderwolves won the game by the score of 47-21. The Cowboys, led by Head Coach
Eric Young, fall 1-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 2-7 in overall play.
CSU Pueblo 47- NMHU 21The Thunderwolves first possession of the game resulted in a fourteen plays, offensively they accumulated seventy one yards and resulted in four minutes and fifty-four seconds. On the kickoff return for the Cowboys, it resulted in a forced fumble for them on special teams. The forced fumble was created by a Thunderwolves at the NMHU twenty yard line. The Thunderwolves capitalized on the Cowboys turnover by scoring a touchdown. The Cowboys would block the point after attempt. The Thunderwolves led 9-0. The Cowboys offensively responded on their first possession, by scoring a twenty-eight yard touchdown from
Emmanuel Lewis to
Demitrius Guice. The Cowboys would cut the lead in two, (9-7).
In the second quarter, the Thunderwolves would score 24 points and giving the Thunderwolves the led 33-7 entering the second half.
The start of the second half, the Thunderwolves were kicking off to the Cowboys and a forced fumble was created by the Thunderwolves kickoff team on the NMHU three yard line. It was recovered in the end zone resulting in a Thunderwolves touchdown and giving the Thunderwolves the led 40-7. The second possession of the third quarter, the Cowboys would start their drive at the eight minutes and twenty-seven seconds. On the first play of this drive,
Emmanuel Lewis would complete a thirty-three yard touchdown pass to
Alex Gaines. The score now was 40-14.
The Thundwolves strike quickly in the fourth quarter and now leading the Cowboys 47-14. Entering the last ten minutes of the game, the Cowboys started their second drive of the quarter at the 8:27 minute mark. The Cowboys scored a touchdown from a trick play, resulting
Darius Davis completing a fifty-six yard pass to
Michael Harrison. The game ended by the final score of 47-21.
Offensively the Cowboys had four good players.
Emmanuel Lewis threw for an impressive 361 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 21 out of 41 attempts. He also had one interception and was sack 7 times.
The receiving group had three players that played well.
Ricky Marvray caught six receptions and had a total of 68 yards of receiving.
Michael Harrison was the big time threat for the Pokes. He caught four receptions that resulted in 122 yards of receiving and one touchdown.
Darius Davis end the day with four receptions along with 67 yards of receiving.
Defensively the Cowboys had three good players.
Ibe Nduka ended the game with four solo tackles, eight assist tackles that resulted in twelve total tackles. He also had five yards of tackle for loss.
Otis Jones was the anchor on defense, he had five solo tackles, and four assisted tackles that resulted in nine total tackles. He also had two sacks that resulted in a loss of 15 yards. He also had three and half tackles for lost, that resulted in 21 loss of yards. He also had two quarter back hurries.
Damion Whittington ended the game with four solo tackles, five assisted tackles that ended up with a total of 9 tackles. He also had one forced fumble.
The Cowboys will continue conference action next Saturday, Nov 16
th, against in state rival the Mustangs of Western New Mexico. The game will start at 12 p.m. in Silver City, New Mexico. The Mustangs are 3-5 in the RMAC, and 3-6 in overall play.
