Cowgirls Wrangle Rattlers in Golden, Colo.

Box Score Golden, Colo. – The Cowgirl Soccer team continued their undefeated 2013 season with a 3-0 victory over the Rattlers of St. Mary's University (Texas) on Sept. 15.  The Cowgirls played the Rattlers on the neutral field of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.  The Cowgirls got an early goal in the first half and then secured their victory with two more goals in the second half.  The Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Justin Wagar, improve their record to 2-0-2 this year.

NMHU 3 – St. Mary's 0

Brooke D'Onofrio got things started for the Cowgirls in the third minute.  She scored her second goal of the season when the Rattlers' goalie failed to clear the ball.  D'Onofrio had a point blank shot from the left side of the net and buried the shot to give the Cowgirls an early 1-0 lead.

The Cowgirls continued the offensive pressure, taking nine shots in the first half.  Their defense was also on task, holding St. Mary's to just three shots in the half.

The Cowgirls continued to control the offensive momentum in the second half.  Nicole Millar hit a monster shot from 30 yards out in the 61st minute.  Millar's shot sailed over the goalie's head and settled into the upper right corner of the goal.  Her first goal of the season gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.

Crystal Schuder rounded out the scoring for the Cowgirls in the 73rd minute.  She beat two Rattlers off the dribble down the right side of the field and beat the charging Rattler keeper from 12 yards out.  Schuder's first goal of the season secured the Cowgirls' 3-0 victory over the St. Mary's Rattlers.

The Cowgirls defense, led by Lisa Clausen and Allison Jordan, completely dominated the St. Mary's offense.  They only allowed two shots on goal from five total shot attempts.  GK Nikita Rivera stopped both shots and continued her streak of holding opposing offenses scoreless.

"This is our best start in my time coaching the Cowgirls.  We are undefeated in four games headed into conference play," commented Coach Wagar.  "Our defense is playing phenomenal with three shutouts in four games.  Lisa and Allison are playing awesome.  They have been on the field for every minute we have played this season.  Good team effort and we are excited to play an undefeated CSU-Pueblo team on Wednesday night."

The Cowgirls will start conference play on Sept. 18 when they host the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves at Perkins Stadium, in Las Vegas, N.M.  The conference opener will pit two undefeated teams against each other.  The ThunderWolves are 3-0 in 2013 with victories over East Central Okla. (1-0), Concordia-St. Paul (1-0), and Fort Hays (2-1).  Come on out to Perkins Stadium to catch your Cowgirl Soccer team in action.
