Cowgirls Open Conference Play with 1-0 Win over CSU-Pueblo

Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. - The NMHU Women's Soccer opened up their 2013 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a victory against the Thunderwolves of Colorado State University of Pueblo on Sept 18, 2013. The Cowgirls offensively controlled the time of possession and the entire defense played a spectacular game.

Once again the Cowgirls took control on the offensive side and started the game on the attack the first period.

The Cowgirls controlled time of possession in the first period. They pressured the Thunderwolves by out-shooting them by 18-2 and outnumbered them in corner kicks four to one. The Cowgirls' defensive was equally impressive by only allowing two shots and none of them were on goal.

In the second period, the Cowgirls continued their momentum from the first period by once again controlling the shots by period and playing great team defense.

Three Cowgirls, sophomore Lisa Clausen, sophomore Allison Jordan, and freshman Kari Kastelic led the defensive charge by controlling the intensity and stellar defensive at team defense. 


In the 71st minute of the second period, Cowgirl Corey Ventura-Hubbert passed to Andrea Duke, and she received it from the 25 yards out on the center left side and scored the first goal of the game. It was Andrea Duke's first goal of her Cowgirl career.

In the remainder of the second period, the Cowgirls took control of the game with ball possession on the offensive side. The Cowgirl defense continued to dominate the ThunderWolves by not allowing any shots.

Goalkeeper Nikita Rivera improves to three wins, zero losses, and two draws (3-0-2).

The Cowgirls will continue their 2013 RMAC play on the road this Sunday, Sept. 22 at Ft. Lewis College. Sunday's game will be played at 1:00 p.m. in Durango, Colo.
