Record is Broken! Soccer Sets School Mark in Dramatic Fashion

ALAMOSA, Colo. – It took a career night from freshman goalie Sarah Beecher, but the Cowgirls wasted no time in breaking the universities season shutout record.
 
The new standard sets at eight, and it only took 11 matches to do it.
 
Beecher grabbed 11 saves – three more than her previous collegiate best for a game – as the New Mexico Highlands soccer team (6-3-2, 3-2-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) outlasted Adams State (1-8-2, 0-5-2 RMAC) Friday afternoon (Oct. 10) in Alamosa, Colorado.

Highlands only managed two shots in the second half which – none of which were on target. Beecher grabbed all six shots faced in the second half, including one with 22 ticks left on the clock.
 
Adams State led on shots 13-7, including 11-4 in shots on goal. However, Highlands is actually undefeated in three games on the season when being outshot.
 
Individually, Beecher moves to 6-3-2 on the year between the posts for Highlands. Molly O'Connor for Adams State allowed one goal on three shots faced and falls to 1-7-2 on the year.
 
Dezirae Armijo led Adams State with four shots on goal.
 
Highlands returns to action Sunday (Oct. 12) at noon at Fort Lewis.
