Soccer Battles CSU-Pueblo to Scoreless Tie

Freshman Mallory Bostic had two shots on goal in a 0-0 tie.
Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – The New Mexico Highlands soccer team (3-1-1, 0-0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) recorded its fourth shutout of the year but was unable to find the back of the net as the Cowgirls tied Colorado State University-Pueblo (1-2-1, 0-0-1) in the conference opener for both teams Wednesday night (Sept. 17).

"It was great to get another shutout," head coach Justin Wagar said after the game. "Unfortunately, 29 shots did not result in a goal. We had our chances but could not score. At least we got a point on the road in conference play, but a tough test from the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis awaits us on Sunday."

Highlands kept the pressure on the Thunderwolves by outshooting them 29-13, including 9-1 in shots on goal, in regulation. The Cowgirls finished the game with an 11-4 advantage in shots on target.

Freshman Sarah Beecher played all 110 minutes in goal, making four saves. It was her fourth shutout of the season, including her third consecutive game. Freshman Ashley McBee led the team with three shots on goal while senior Alyssa Saucedo and freshman Mallory Bostic added a pair of shots on target.

Highlands gets the luxury of four days off before returning to action Sunday (Sept. 21) against Fort Lewis at noon in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
