ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Cowgirls shot a season-worst 29.4 percent (15-51) and fell behind by as much as 16 in the second half as New Mexico Highlands (4-10, 3-7 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) fell to Adams State (2-11, 2-7 RMAC) 57-48 Saturday night (Jan. 10).
Trailing 50-37 with 8:37 left in the game, the Cowgirls scored six straight as they cut a 16-point deficit to seven. Sophomore

. After Adams State missed a shot, senior
Anngelina Sanchez grabbed the rebound and came down the court and hit a three to force an Adams State timeout with 5:27 remaining in the game. However, the Cowgirls played between a 7-9 point deficit the rest of the contest as Adams State held on for the nine-point win.
The Grizzlies scored 20 points off of 18 Cowgirl miscues to help take control of the game. Sanchez led the Cowgirls with nine points and seven boards while Emilie Klint scored 14 points and had seven rebounds.
Highlands returns to action next Friday (Jan. 16) when it takes on Chadron State in the Wilson Complex at 5 p.m.
