Tough afternoon for the Cowgirls

Box Score Pueblo, Colo.- New Mexico Highlands Univeristy Women's Soccer team took on CSU-Pueblo's Thunderwolves for the second time, in two weeks, but this time it was in Pueblo, Colorado. In the last meeting the Cowgirls won 3-2, but unfortunately the Cowgirls fell in this game 1-0.

It was tough afternoon for the Cowgirls. Apolonia Thomas battled to save 7 shots on goal this game, 4 in the first half and 3 in the second.  CSU-Pueblo managed 14 shots, and half were on goal. Your Cowgirls only managed 9 shots this game, 4 the first half and 5 the second half, 6 of which were on goal.

It was looking as if the game was going to end in a tie at 0, but with only 2 minutes left in the game, Pueblo's Danelle Dondelinger scored her first game of the season, which was also the game winner.

Our girls play again on Friday October 16th against Colorado Christian at 4 p.m. Be sure to come cheer your Cowgirls onto victory!

Thoughts from Coach Oscar Mendoza:

"The girls came out and competed against a good Pueblo team. We didn't play a full 90 minutes and they were able to take advantage of that. We have some things that we need to clean up before this weekend when we host Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines. It will be a busy weekend as we are hosting a Breast Cancer Awareness game on Friday and Senior Day on Sunday. It will be a fun and exciting weekend as we close out our regular season home games."
