Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The New Mexico Highlands football team won their second game in a row by beating Black Hills State 40-31. After a slow first half, the Cowboys scored all of their, season high, 40 points to win the game.

First half was all Black Hills State as they went to the locker rooms up 19-0.

Second half, the Cowboys began their attack from the very beginning. On their first drive, the Cowboys would drive down the field to score a 15-yard touchdown from
Trevor Swenson to
Vincent Venegas. The Cowboys defense would then begin to respond and
Eugene Palmer would intercept the ball after two plays. Using that momentum, the Cowboys would score again on a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Swenson.

The Cowboys were not done and
Isaac Figueroa would cause another turnover with an interception.
Davonte Lynch would follow that up with a 10-yard rushing touchdown to put the Cowboys up 20-19.

The Cowboys were relentless on every drive and after another turnover by the Yellow Jackets, Lynch would score another touchdown from two yards to build the lead to eight.

With seven minutes left in the game, the Yellow Jackets would begin to fight back and score on a 72-yard pass to cut the deficit to two. Cowboys would immediately counter and Kirt Terry Springs would return the kick for a touchdown.

Being down 25-33, the Yellow jackets would continue to fight and score another touchdown. Up by two points, the Cowboys would get some insurance points after a 67-yard passing touchdown from Swenson to
Justin Vaughn.

With two minutes left on the clock, the Yellow Jackets would continue their push to get the win. They would fall short, as
Taj Mathis would intercept the ball in the Yellow Jacket end zone to secure the ball and the Cowboys second win of the season.
