Box Score Rapid City, S.D.-  The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball fell to South Dakota School of Mines in tonight's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game. Your Cowgirls fall to 2-7 overall and 0-5 RMAC.
In the first quarter, the Cowgirls started off with a lay-up from freshman 
Kaylani Maiava. Then sophomore 
Michelle Tapia nailed a shot from downtown to help the Cowgirls. With two minutes left into quarter Maiava went to work in the paint and found her way to the basket.
In the second quarter, Maiava and Tapia continued to work in the paint. With 8:34 minutes left 
Michelle Tapia got herself a good old fashion three point play. Tapia knocked down her free throw from the line to cut the Hardrockers lead down to 12. Then with three minutes left senior 
Brittany Brown hit one from behind the arc. The Cowgirls went into the locker room at the half down 44-24.
In the third quarter, Brown found her way to the hole to finish with a lay-up. 
Kaylani Maiava would then get a nice block and rebound to help the Cowgirls get back on the other side. Brown then pulled up with a short jumper and Tapia went to work in the paint her way in the paint for a basket.
In the fourth quarter, senior 
Michelle Traynham hit one from the arc and attacked the basket on the next trip to help the Cowgirls out. With 2:44 Maiava got herself to the free throw line and knocked both down then came back down on the next possession for a nice finish in the paint.
The final score was Hardrockers: 87 Cowgirls 55. 
The Cowgirls will be back in action after the holiday break on January 1st against Colorado Christian.
