LAS VEGAS, N.M.  – The Cowgirls trailed around double-digits for most of the game as New Mexico Highlands (5-16, 4-13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) fell to Fort Lewis (12-8, 9-7 RMAC) 70-52 Saturday night (Feb. 7) in Las Vegas.

Claudia Meneses hit a jumper and senior 
Jenny Johnson split from the free throw line. The Skyhawks responded with an 11-2 run to push their lead to double digits. Mary Brinton made a layup before splitting from the line. Menses hit a jumper before Simone Ruedin answered with a layup. Kaile Magazenni grabbed a defensive board and fed Skylyn Webb for the fastbreak layup. Magazenni then hit a jumper and a pair from the line to push the lead to 19-7 with 10:27 left in the first half. 
Meneses came off the bench for the double-double with 14 points and 10 boards while Snchez chipped in 10 points. 
Fort Lewis outrebounded the Cowgirls 46-37 and outscored Highlands 42-24 in the paint. Brinton scored a game best 18 points while Magazzeni added 14. Webb barely missed the double-double with 13 points and nine boards. 
The Cowgirls return to action next Friday (Feb. 13) at 5 p.m. against Colorado Mesa.
