Jeff Mills era did not start the way Cowboys fans were hoping, as the Cowboys fell to in-state opponent Eastern New Mexico 40-10.
The Cowboys started the game out strong with a 32-yard run on the first offensive play. Just two plays later the Cowboys lost their first fumble of the year. The Hounds were able to take advantage of the Cowboys mistake and turn it into 7 points on 7 plays that lasted 3:41.

With 3:20 left in the first half the Hounds Cameron Mikell gave his team the 14-7 lead with a 10-yard run. The Cowboys did not give up in the half as they added a 39-yard field goal to bring it within 4 at the half.

Vincent Venegas led the game at the half with 110 rushing yards while
Kirt Terry-Springs lead the game with 75 receiving yards.
The start of the second half was rough for the Cowboys as within the first 5 minutes the Hounds scored twice to go up 27-10. The Hounds then scored once again in the third quarter on a 61-yard run by Kamal Cass.
With just 1:32 left, Vaughn Johnson finished the scoring for the night for a final of 40-10.
The Cowboys and
Jeff Mills look to get their first win next Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz. against Division I FBS Northern Arizona. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game will be shown on Fox Sports Arizona.
