Mines' 4th Quarter Too Much for Cowgirls

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls fell to Colorado Mines University tonight in the John Wilson Complex. The Cowgirls fall to an overall record of 2-9, RMAC 0-7.

In the first quarter, the Cowgirls were hot with senior Brittany Brown hitting a jumper and senior Michelle Traynham knocking down back to back treys. The Cowgirls continued to shoot well and ended up taking the first quarter by three.

In the second quarter, the Cowgirls came in ready and senior Kristy Marquez knocked down some free throws. Then Trayhman continued to stay hot from behind the arc with hitting back to back triples to put the Cowgirls up by five. Mines battled back though and took their first lead with 3:30 left until half. Cowgirls battle and take the lead again with a trey from junior Guilia Simioni. Mines would hit a couple of shots to go into halftime up 30-27.

In the third quarter,  Mines came out of the locker room hot with back to back lay-up. The Cowgirls battled back with two free throws and a shot from behind the arc to bring the lead down by two. Then sophomore Kylee Reibel hit four straight free throws. Reibel then drove to the basket and finished in the paint to help. The Cowgirls went into the last quarter down by five.

In the fourth quarter, Mines continued to attack the basket and finish in the paint. Reibel then helped the Cowgirls get going with back to back plays with a lay-up and knocking down two free throws. Both teams were attacking the basket and finishing in the paint. But Mines came out on top and took the win home with them. Final score 67-53

The Cowgirls will be on the road next week as they take on Colorado State Pueblo on Friday at 5:30 p.m and then Western State Colorado on Saturday at 5 p.m.
