Another Close Game for the Cowgirls

Box Score DENVER, Colo.- After their first conference win last weekend at Adams St. The Cowgirls were hungry for another win as they took one Metro St. in Denver tonight, Friday January 29. Unfortunately, the Cowgirls would fall to the Roadrunner by a score of 65-59
 
The game starting promising as the Cowgirls would win the tip and get an offensive rebound by Simioni, but she was not able get the put back. After a stop the Cowgirls' Kristy Marquez found Brittany Brown for a lay-up to give the Cowgirls the 2-0 lead. The Roadrunners would then go come down and Ohrdorf would hit a lay-up to tie the game with 8:54 left in the first. Both team would then go cold and not hit a field goal til the 6:29 mark when Michelle Traynham would hit her first three of the night to give the Cowgirls the 5-3 lead. After a Brown turnover the Roadrunner would miss a jumper and retain possession after the ball hit off a Cowgirl.
 
After a three by Traynham the Cowgirls went up 8-4 Kristy Marquez would then hit a lay-up to make it 10-4 Cowgirls. The Roadrunners would then go on a 11-4 run to end and 1st quarter and be up one 15-14.
 
The second quarter would start off rough for the Cowgirls as they would go on a 10-0 run to make it 25-14. The Cowgirls would get their first two points of the quarter from Martinez with two free throws with 5:49 left in the second quarter. The Roadrunner's defense would continue to overwhelm the Cowgirls as the Cowgirl's first field goal of the quarter would come at 2:39 on a three by Simioni. Going into the half the Cowgirls trailed the Roadrunners by a score of 30-23.
 
The second half would be better more efficient for the Cowgirls as it only took a minute and a half to get their first basket on a three from Brown. With the clock showing 7:55 on the clock Traynham would drive and draw the shooting foul which sent her to the line for two. She would knock down both to cut the Roadrunners lead to 36-28. The Roadrunners' Stipanovich would give the Cowgirls trouble as she would hit a nice jumper which would be her ninth and tenth points of the night. After a couple of miss shots, a turnover, and Martinez's third and fourth foul Brianna Finch called a timeout to calm her team down as they trailed 38-28 with 7:02 left in the third. The Roadrunners would go on a 10-7 run over the last 7:02 to lead 48-35 going into the fourth quarter.
 
The Cowgirls would start the second half off strong with a Simioni finding Traynham for a three just 13 seconds into the quarter. After a free throw by the Roadrunners Traynham would spot up on the right wing and drain another three to make it an eight-point game. Simioni would drive left of the Cowgirls next possession and hit an acrobatic jumper to help the Cowgirls creep back in. Stipanovich would find her self at the line and help give the Roadrunners two points back before Simioni would hit a shot from behind the arc, the Roadrunners would hold the lead still at 51-46. Brown would then hit a transition three to make it a two-point game with just 6:03 left in the game which forced the Roadrunners to call a timeout. The timeout helped stop the Cowgirls momentum as the Roadrunners would get three quick points to force Coach Finch to call a timeout down, 53-49. 

The Cowgirls weren't going to give up and the Cowgirls found a way to be in the right place at the right time and come up with some timely steals.  The clocked showed 1:00 when Simioni went to the line with the score at 62-58. She hit the first but couldn't hit the second as the Roadrunners rebounded ball and killed 27 seconds. With 20.2 seconds left and down three the Cowgirls called a timeout to draw up a play, but couldn't hit the three to tie the game. The Cowgirls had to foul and the Roadrunners hit their free-throws. Final score from Denver 65-59.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action tomorrow night against UC-Colorado Springs. Game time is set for 5:30. Live stats and video will be available.
