Homecoming Game

Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands Men's Football team will take on the South Dakota School of Mines on October 8th, 2016 for the Cowboys homecoming game.

New Mexico Highlands Cowboys:

Last weekend the Cowboys lost to Black Hills State (10-36). There were many encouraging signs in this game. Freshmen Jairan Manning ran the ball with ease, picking up 106 yards on just 14 carries. Manning kept his legs churning and rarely came down on first contact. Look for him to be a focal point of the offense throughout the rest of the season. Once again, Redshirt Senior Vincent Venegas was a bright spot for the Cowboys offense. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry, and he added a 20 yard reception for the only Cowboys touchdown. Senior Eric Smith played lights out as he had 19 total tackles, and he grabbed a critical interception. Smith will look to lead the defense against the Hardrockers offense. He will have help from Junior Corbin Baxter as he is coming off of a game that he accounted for two turnovers. Baxter caught an interception and recovered a fumble. The Cowboys will need the services of Smith and Baxter to generate more big plays on defense against South Dakota School of Mines.

South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers:

The Hardrockers will bring a hot offense to Las Vegas. They are coming off of a 62-35 win against Adams State in which Junior quarterback Jake Sullivan accounted for 7 total touchdowns. Sullivan comes into the game having thrown 14 touchdowns, and running for another 7 touchdowns on the year. The Hardrockers offense revolves around the play of Sullivan. His top target is Senior Marcus Sanchez, who has hauled in 20 receptions for 307 yards on the season. Senior Rashad Ridley is the next biggest target for Sullivan, as he has caught 19 passes with 3 of them serving as touchdowns. Defensive stalwart, Senior David Jakpor comes into the game leading his team with 48 tackles on the year.
