Las Vegas, NM- The New Mexico Highlands University Women's Basketball team could not out last  Colorado Mesa University Mavericks as they fell, 72-84. This drops your Cowgirls to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in RMAC.
 
First Quarter: The Cowgirls got out to a slow start as they fell behind, 2-13 early on. Finally, Sophomore 
Kaylani Maiava got them started out with a 3 point shot. This got them some much needed momentum as they found the basket easier for the rest of the quarter, but they went into the 2
nd trailing, 25-14.
 
Second Quarter: The Mavericks came out and nailed a 3 point shot to start the 2
nd quarter, extending their lead to 14 points. After another slow start, the Cowgirls got going with another 3 by Sophomore 
Ida Valencia. They had a tough go around as the Mavericks opened up their lead to 22 points at one point, but Sophomore 
Brianna Pribble hit a 3 to cut the deficit back down to 14 points.
 
Third Quarter: Freshmen 
Ari Baca hit a layup to open up the 2
nd half for the Cowgirls. A little while later, Valencia hit another 3 to bring the score to 63-48 in favor of the Mavericks. They had a hard time crawling out of the hole they had dug from themselves however as the Mavericks went into the 4
th quarter leading, 71-52.
 
Fourth Quarter: The teams traded 3's right out of the break as Bryanna Adams sunk one for Mesa, and Freshmen 
Juliana Gurule hit one for the Cowgirls. Baca gave her best efforts to put the Cowgirls back in the game as she reeled in 11 straight points to cut their deficit down to as much as 72-79. While they made a strong push at the end, they were unable to complete the comeback.
 
Final Score: Cowgirls-72 Mavericks-84
