Senior Weekend For The Cowgirls

LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirls will host their last home games of the season this weekend. Friday as they take on the Grizzlies of Adams State University. On Saturday they will host the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College.

The Skyhawks will be coming to Las Vegas with a 10-9 league mark. After a tough loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Cowgirls will be looking to give the Skyhawks their tenth conference loss this season. Earlier this season, the Cowgirls fell short to the Skyhawks in a high-scoring match of 89-80. After a long first half of trading baskets, the Cowgirls were able to cut the Skyhawks lead down to six on a jumper made by Kaylani Maiava. The Cowgirls persisted to feed Maiava who finished with a nice move and draw the foul. Maiava found herself on the line to finish the old-fashioned three-point play to make it a three-point game. Ultimately, the Skyhawks had the opportunity to go on a 16-2 point run. With just 1:28 left in the game a jumper from Maiava would get the Cowgirls to within seven, but that would be the closest they would get as they would drop the game 89-90.The Cowgirls will be looking for a big win against the Skyhawks.

Adams State, currently sitting just above the Cowgirls in the standings of the Mountain Division, fell short to our mighty Cowgirls earlier this season in a score of 51-49. The nail-biter came down to the last few seconds of the game. With just three seconds on the Grizzly shot-clock, junior guard Michelle Traynham took to the free throw line after drawing a foul. Traynham sunk both to make it a two-point game. The Grizzlies would heave a last second half court shot, but it was off the mark. Highlands wins the game. The Cowgirls will be looking for a repeat offense.

Both games will begin at 5pm. Live stats and video will be available for both games.
