Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- After dropping last night to Westminster in dramatic fashion the Cowgirls would try to change their luck against Colorado Mesa. A late fourth quarter would help the Cowgirls, but it was a little too late as the Cowgirls drop a tight one 70-66.
The Mavericks would go on a 8-0 run to start the game over the first 5:32 when
Kristy Marquez would hit a jumper to get the Cowgirls going. With 1:41 on the clock and the Cowgirls down four,
Brittany Brown would hit a three to make it a one point game, 13-12 heading into the seconds quarter.
The second quarter would be the most dominate for the Mavericks. Initially the teams would trade the lead back and forth. It started with
Michelle Traynham's three to put the Cowgirls up one. The Maverick's Duran would answer with a three of her own. At the 7:48 mark the Mavericks would start a 14-4 run that would end at the half where they would lead by a score of 33-24.
The Mavericks would continue their run in the second half scoring the first 6 points before
Giulia Simioni would knock down two free throws to make it a 38-26 lead for the Mavericks. The third quarter would favor the Mavericks 20-15 as they took the 53-39 lead going into the final ten minutes.
In the final ten minutes the Cowgirls would play what could be their best quarter of basketball of the season. It started with a Maiava lay-up and a
Brianna Pribble fast break three, which would make it a 54-44 game with just 7:37 left. The Cowgirls would just keep chipping away with Maiava who had eight points in just roughly three minutes. With 2:57 left in the game
Kylee Reibel would hit an easy lau-up which would cut the Mavericks lead down to just four points. Mesa's Musante would know down two free throws with 2:38 left to make it a six point lead. The Cowgirls would gain those two points plus another back as Traynham would hit a three to cut the Maverick's lead in half, 63-60.
The Mavericks would then come down and hit a jumper to extend their lead to five with just 1:21 left in the game. The Cowgirls would not give up though as Simioni would hit a three that would make it a two point game. The Cowgirls then fouled Adams and sent her to the line where she made both free throws. The Cowgirls then missed their next shot which forced them to foul. They would send Small to the line where she hit the first but missed the seconds. Maiava, who had a hot hand all night, knocked down a three to make it a two point game with just 1.5 seconds left. The Cowgirls would fouls and Archambeau would hit both to seal the Mavericks' win, 70-66.
