NMHU Cowboys:
Last weekend the Cowboys dropped the contest against Colorado State-Pueblo (6-61). While the Cowboys got out to a rough start, they finished on a positive note. The 2
nd half was better in every aspect. The offense gained more rhythm as they drove the field methodically, and the defense tightened up. Red shirt freshmen
Vincent Venegas continues to be a focal point of the Cowboys' offense as he had 13 rushing attempts, and added 2 receptions to his resume. Redshirt junior
Regan Atkins came alive as he had 9 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. Atkins had a monster game as his 6'6" frame was too much for the Pueblo defenders to contain. Look for him to continue to be a big part of the Cowboys passing game. Freshmen athlete
Jeremiah Meyers had a career high 9 total tackles. This is an encouraging sign for the Cowboys moving forward as they head to Spearfish, South Dakota to take on the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets.
Black Hills State Yellow Jackets:
The Yellow Jackets were handed their first loss of the season last week as they fell to South Dakota Mines (17-46) bringing their overall record to 3-1, and 3-1 in RMAC play. Black Hills State will bring a dynamic offense when they take the field against your Cowboys. They are averaging 417.3 yards of total offense per game. Junior running back Phydell Paris is a huge piece of the Yellow Jackets offense, as he is averaging almost 5 yards per carry along with 3 touchdowns. Junior receiver Shandon Jones is averaging 20.4 yards per catch. It is imperative that the Cowboys take Jones' big play ability away. The Yellow Jackets defense will look to feed off of any turnover opportunity, as sophomore defensive back Drew Hebel has already brought in 5 interceptions on the year.
