Cowboys host Mavs in Salute the Troops Game, Senior Day

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands football team looks to end the season on a high note while celebrating the military and their seniors as the Cowboys host Colorado Mesa 1 p.m. Saturday in their Salute the Troops Game and Senior Day.

Current military and veterans with a military I.D. (current or expired) along with a plus one can come to the game for free. If you stop by the veterans' welcome table outside the stadium, you can also be given a ticket for a free hot dog. 

Come to the game 20 minutes early as we will be honoring our 13 seniors as well.

THE COWBOYS COMING INTO THIS WEEK | SEASON STATS
The Cowboys are coming off its best defensive effort of the season as they held Western State to 166 yards of offense (including just 32 yards over the Mountaineers' final five drives) during a 20-16 victory Saturday at Sanchez Family Stadium.

NMHU used two long touchdown drives (a 12-play, 70-yard drive in the second quarter and an 11-play, 95-yard drive in the fourth quarter) and a pair of Israel Farfan field goals (including a 53-yarder that helped him earn RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week - the second time this season he's won that award) to come away with the victory.

Dondi Fuller had a big game for the Cowboys as he finished with eight tackles, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. Malik Brown led the team with nine tackles while Willie Morris came up big with an interception in the end zone to halt a Western State drive and a blocked extra point to go along with two tackles.

Danny Cameron finished 22-for-39 for 260 yards, a touchdown and an interception for the Cowboys while D.J. McFadden led the team with nine catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Dione Alston had a team-high 69 yards rushing and a touchdown.

On the season, Cameron has thrown for 2,210 yards, 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions. On the ground, Alston leads the way with 1,090 yards and six touchdowns while McFadden leads the team in receiving with 51 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns. Brown continues to leads the Cowboys in tackles with 88 to go along with his team-best five interceptions while Cameron Forziati is second on the team with 76 tackles and leads the team with 4.5 sacks.

ABOUT COLORADO MESA | SEASON STATS
The Mavericks have won two in a row since dropping two in a row, including winning a wild 64-63 overtime contest against Adams State last weekend where the Grizzlies went for two and the win and didn't get it. CMU was led by dual-threat quarterback Eystin Salum as he went 16-for-32 for 275 yards and two scores through the air while adding 130 yards and three scores on the ground. Johnathan Beverly also reached the 100-yard mark on the ground with 153 yards and two scores. Peter Anderson led the Mavericks in receiving with six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown.

On the season, Salum leads the team in rushing (617 yards, nine touchdowns) and passing (2,191 yards, 15 touchdowns) while Beverly is close behind in rushing with 598 yards and seven scores. Anderson has also been the team's top pass catcher with 64 receptions for 1,285 yards and nine touchdowns. On the defensive side, Tom Saager leads the Mavericks in tackles (74), Chance Drake leads in sacks (6) while Antonio Clark leads in interceptions (4).

SERIES HISTORY
The Cowboys are 11-30 all-time against Colorado Mesa, including having lost five in a row against the Mavericks. NMHU's last victory over CMU was a 40-36 win in Grand Junction. The last victory at home over CMU came in 2011, a 41-38 victory.
