LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team fell to first-place Colorado Mesa 79-50 on Friday night at Wilson Complex.

The Cowgirls (3-12 overall, 1-7 RMAC) Trailed 31-18 in the second quarter, but used a three-point play from
Brianna Stewart at the 2:50 mark to go on a 8-0 run to cut the Maverick (11-1, 8-0) advantage to five points with a minute left in the half.

CMU's Jaylyn Duran drained a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in the half to halt the run and help the Mavs take a 34-26 lead into halftime.

CMU slowly pulled away from there, outscoring NMHU 45-24 in the second half (including 26-9 in the fourth quarter) to come away with their 10th-consecutive win.

Allyah George led the Cowgirls with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds, Stewart had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while
Amari Terry had 11 points.

NMHU returns to action 5 p.m. Saturday as the Cowgirls host Western State Colorado.
