Durango, CO --- The New Mexico Highlands Women's basketball (0-2) team traveled to Durango, CO over the weekend where they played in the RMAC/Lonestar Conference Challenge against Eastern New Mexico on Friday and Western New Mexico on Saturday.
AGAINST EASTERN NM: The Cowgirls gave a strong effort but still lost to the Greyhounds 78-66. The Greyhounds dominated the glass as they out-rebounded the Cowgirls 47-25 with 12 of them being offensive. The Greyhounds bench also played a huge factor as they outscored the Cowgirls bench 31-2.
The Cowgirls were led by
Jordyn Lewis who ended the game with 18 points and 4 assists while making all five of her free throw attempts.
Maiah Rivas (5 assists) and
Desiree Forster (3 rebounds, 2 steals) added 15 points each and
Ashley Antone added 14 points while knocking down 4 three's.
AGAINST WESTERN NM: Fatigue seemed to kick in as the Cowgirls struggled offensively in the back-to-back game, as the Mustangs shot 43% from the field compared to 37% for NMHU. The Mustangs out-rebounded the Cowgirls 37-28 for the game as the Mustangs won 69-50.
Ashley Antone led the way for the Cowgirls with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal while
Jordyn Lewis added 18 points and 5 rebounds.
The Cowgirls will be back in action this coming week as they take on Texas A&M International at 5 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 12
th at Wilson Complex in Las Vegas, NM.
