LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team hung tough for a half, but fell short to UC Colorado Springs 80-47 on Friday night at Wilson Complex.

The Cowgirls (4-17 overall, 2-12 RMAC) got back-to-back 3-pointers from
DeAvion Allen and
Amari Terry to cut what was once a double-digit first-half lead for the Mountain Lions (9-11, 8-6) to three at 35-32 with 1:58 left in the second quarter as neither team scored the rest of the half.

But NMHU went on to be outscored 23-7 in the third quarter and 22-8 in the fourth to fall to UCCS. The Mountain Lions took advantage of second-chance opportunities as they grabbed 18 offensive rebounds for 17 points while shooting 45.7 percent from the field (including going 12-for-28 from 3-point range).
The Cowgirls were led by Allen and
Allyah George as each had 13 points while
Jordyn Lewis finished with eight and
Kish Chandler had seven.
