Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands (0-2, 0-2) host their Homecoming game against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Dixie State at 1 P.M. on Saturday September 21, 2019 at Leveo & Patricia Family Sanchez Stadium in Las Vegas, NM.

The Cowboys have gotten out to a slow start this year, but hope to win their first game of the season as they dropped a game that was cancelled due to lightning, and fell to Adams State last week in Alamosa, CO. The Cowboys are led by Gunner Mefferd at quarterback, who has thrown 1 touchdown on 12 of 35 completions and 190 yards. Kam Mosby has taken the load for the running backs this year as he has rushed the ball 21 times and has gained 93 yards and has also rushed for a touchdown. Antoine Thompson, Elijah Boyd, Darren Williams, and James Budgett  have also ran well behind Mosby, as they all have rushed for more than 20 yards this season. Thompson is also a threat for the Cowboys as a receiver, as he has caught a touchdown this year. Ezekial Tapia also ran for a touchdown in last week's game against Adams State. The Cowboys have passed for a total of 189 yards on the season and have rushed the ball for 255 yards thus far.

Defensively, the Cowboys have seemed to find an answer as they have only allowed opponents to rush for 120 yards and have only allowed 1 rushing TD. Malik Brown leads the Cowboys with 12 total tackles and also has an interception and B.J. Brown is right behind him, with 9 total tackles and an interception.

Dixie State comes in to the game after defeating Fort Lewis last week 23-14 after being down 14-0 at half. The trailblazers switch time at quarterback with Kody Wilstead and Keaton Mott. Wilstead has competed 23 of his 44 attempts and 3 touchdowns. Mott has thrown 13 of 30 with 153 yards and a touchdown. Wilstead has also thrown 2 interceptions on the year.

Today's matchup marks the 4th time these teams have met. Dixie leads the series 2 games to 1 as Dixie won last year's contest 28-23 at Dixie State. In 2017, the Cowboys beat the Trailblazers on a 4th quarter comeback 23-22 and a last second field goal. Dixie State won the first meeting in 2016, 21-14.

GO COWBOYS!!
