Cowgirls head to Pueblo to finish 2019-2020 season

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands women's basketball team hit the road over the weekend s they fell to MSU-Denver 55-82 and Chadron State 66-72.
 
AGAINST MSU_DENVER: Freshmen duo, Maiah Rivas and Ashley Antone led most of the way for the Cowgirls as Rivas scored 17 points, and Antone added 16. Maiah also added 5 assists and 3 steals for the night. Desiree Forster and Jordyn Lewis ended the night with 8 points each, and Forster grabbed 6 boards.
 
AGAINST CHADRON STATE: The Cowgirls fought hard the entire game, and led for most of the game. Throughout the game, there were 7 lead changes, and 5 times that the Eagles and Cowgirls were all tied up.
 
Going into the half, the game looked promising as the Cowgirls found themselves up 8 points. It was Jordyn Lewis' sharp shooting that allowed Highlands to hold onto the lead until the 4:06 minute mark in the 4th quarter. Highlands ended up losing the game with a final score of 66-72.
 
Jordyn Lewis had an impressive stat sheet as she went 10-18 from the field, and 7-13 from the three point line. Lewis ended the game with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Freshman point guard, Maiah Rivas also shined as she went 7-10 from the field, and 3-6 from the three point line. Rivas finished with 21 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Cowgirls will head to CSU-Pueblo for their final game of the 2019-2020 season. The ThunderWolves (7-19, 6-15 RMAC) come into the weekend averaging 57.5 points per contest while shooting 36% from the field and 24% from three. The ThunderWolves also average 34 rebounds and 9 assists per game.
 
JaNaiya Davis leads the way for the ThunderWolves as she averages 16.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3 assists. Sydni Williams (11 points, 8 rebounds), Khiya Adams (10 points, 5 rebounds), and Kansas Watts (6 points, 3 rebounds) are also players to watch for the ThunderWolves on Friday.
